ALL NEW KIA NAIMO CONCEPT ENTRIOR AND INTERIOR At the 2016 Seoul Motor Show Kia has unveiled the Naimo Concept, a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) with a pure electric powertrain and a design with simple lines and elements inspired by Korean arts and craftsPremiered at the Seoul Motor Show, the Kia Naimo Concept is a B-segment electric concept car designed by the company’s international design team in Seoul. The Naimo has a length of 3,890 mm, combined with generous wheelbase, width and height (2,647, 1,844 and 1,589 mm respectively). The front and rear overhangs are very short which gives the Naimo a solid stance – with the wheels placed at the corners – and provide large head, leg and shoulder room. The electric powertrain adopts a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) electric motor which delivers 80 kW (109 ps) and 280 Nm of torque. The unit is fed by a LiPoly (Lithium Ion Polymer) battery pack that can be recharged to 80% capacity in 25 minutes. The top speed is 150 km/h and the driving range is up to 200 km on a single charge. Design The Naimo Concept takes its name from the Korean word “Ne-mo”, (pronounced ‘Neh-mo’) which means ‘square shape’. This geometric shape is reflected in the overall solid and boxy appearance of the car as well as in a number of details that use rounded rectangles: from the dot-style LED headlights and tail lights to the grid-styled front openings and the door handle surfaces. The Naimo also features some unusual details such as the asymmetric sunroof inspired by the forms of Asian Celadon-style pottery, the wraparound windscreen and the air-wiper – which uses high-intensity air jet to and replaces the traditional wiper blade on the windscreen. The jade exterior finish is also inspired by traditional Korean arts and crafts. To offer an easy access to the cabin, there are no B-pillars and the rear doors are rear-hinged. Also, the trunk has a three-way split opening for versatile loading operations. The conventional side mirrors have been replaced with miniature cameras integrated in the A-pillars. Interior Design The four-seater interior continues the theme of rounded rectangles, which are used for many elements, from the steering wheel to the door panels, the pedals and the shape of the consoles. The cabin evokes a sense of tranquility thanks to the color scheme and the hand-crafted materials: Korean oak is used to trim the interior door panels and the entire interior floor, and Korean“Han-ji” paper is used for the head lining. Contrasting with these traditional elements is the instrument panel, that adopts TOLED (transparent organic light emitting diode) technology.
