new Citroen has developed a new AIRFLOW 2L concept based on C4 Cactus, reengineered to improve aerodynamics and loose weight to promote fuel economy. At present, Cactus 1.6 BlueHDi is the cleanest, delivering 38.73 kmpl (91.1mpg). It is fascinating to know that Citroen has shown remarkable improvement in fuel efficiency technology from BlueHDi to AIRFLOW 2L. Basically, the French carmaker has coupled HybridAir technology to 1.2-litre 3 cylinder PureTech engine from Cactus family to achieve the extra range; and has named it PureTech 82 engine. HybridAir technology uses compressed air unlike usual hybrids that make use of electricity to roll the wheels. This alone reduces fuel consumption by 30%, in addition to which the company fitted special bodykit and wheels with lower rolling resistance tall & narrow tyres to C4 Cactus to augment aerodynamics by 20%.watch?v=b28gbk75AR8[/youtube]Further, Citroen has used lightweight, high performance materials including high-yield steels, aluminium, carbon fibre, composite materials & translucent polycarbonate to bring down weight of AIRFLOW 2L concept by 100 kg compared to production version of C4 Cactus. Affordable C4 Cactus AirFlow 2L can be expected to go on sale in France by 2020.
