Subaru VIZIV Future SUV Concept Debuts In Tokyo Subaru has two world debuts at the Tokyo Motor Show, the VIZIV Future and the Impreza 5-Door concept cars. While there’s no need to stress how important the Impreza line is for Subaru, the VIZIV Future study should not be overlooked. There’s a reason why it looks so production-ready compared to the wild concept cars unveiled in Tokyo – Subaru will most likely build it.The automaker describes the latest in its line of VIZIV studies as an “SUV-type concept model embodying the future vision of car development.” That’s a very complicated way of saying it will one day transition into a production SUV. VIZIV Future also offers a look at next-generation technologies that will be seen on upcoming models. Among them are the automatic driving technology resulting from the ongoing evolution of EyeSight, and the power unit combining a downsized turbo engine with a hybrid system. The next-generation hybrid system is an evolution of the system first launched on the Subaru XV Hybrid. The combination with a downsized turbo engine is said to improve fuel efficiency. The turbo engine is a further development of the 1.6-liter unit adopted by Subaru for the first time in the Levorg. It is compact, light weight and delivers higher thermal efficiency. An evolved Symmetrical motor AWD system is present as well, with modifications including the ditching of the propeller shaft by mounting the single motor concentrically on the rear axle in a compact layout. This results in a flat floor which contributes to a more spacious and comfortable interior. Design-wise, the VIZIV Future looks modern and cool thanks to its elegant proportions and striking design details. It adopts the Subaru Dynamic & Solid design theme, with the extended fenders and sculpted bumpers giving it a sturdy appearance. The cabin features a beige and black contrast along with the use of orange as a unified accent color inside and out, creating a joyful space. A camera for monitoring the driver is located on the instrument panel glare shield. Thanks to an advanced version of Subaru’s EyeSight technology, automatic driving at all speeds on expressways and automatic parking are possible.
