Maruti Suzuki Swift has always been favorite of Indians. The cars which is known for giving “Paisa Vasool” performance has been launched with it’s new version. The all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift has been launched at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) at Auto Expo 2018. The new Swift is available in four variants each – L, V, Z and Z+, with both the petrol and diesel engines. While engine and power output remain unchanged, it is now available with a 5-speed automatic transmission (AMT) aside from the manual one too. The new Swift AMT prices range between Rs 6.34 lakh and Rs 7.96 lakh. The 2018 Swift’s mileage has gone up thanks to its lighter weight and the ARAI-certified figures now read 22kmpl and 28.4kmpl for petrol and diesel respectively. The 2018 Maruti Swift gets lots of new features such as auto LED projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, tail lamps with LED brake lights and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among others. Safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and Isofix child seat anchors are standard with the new model. The new Swift revives its rivalry with the Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10.Maruti claims that the petrol engine returns a fuel efficiency of 22kpl and the diesel returns 28.4kpl, making both these engines very efficient to begin with. The difference in price between a petrol and diesel Swift (variant to variant) is exactly Rs 1 lakh, so unless your usage is exceptionally high, the petrol is the one to go for. It’s more refined, smooth to drive and rev-happy. The first thing that strikes you about the new Swift is its bold styling, and youthful looks. This is by far, the best looking Swift till date. The front is all new and is based on Maruti Suzuki’s latest version of its compact sedan – Dzire. But the Swift has a more sporty look, with all the chrome missing from the grille and is all-black. The new headlamps have a sharper look and come with daytime running lights and projector lamps– which is fairly standard with most cars these days. As far as the back is concerned, it looks different from its earlier avatar and has a rather Toyota Etios Liva inspired look. There is both a lot more cabin space and boot space in the new Swift, thanks to a longer wheelbase (20 mm longer). The boot space is a big surprise, with 28 per cent more space (58 litres more than before) compared to the earlier version. The 7- inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which is now a familiar feature in Maruti Suzuki cars is there in the manual variants, but is surprisingly missing from the automatic versions. The pick up is smooth and swift but in the mid range it can feel a bit flat. But revv it a bit harder and the engine comes alive above 4,000 rpm. The braking is impressive. Going by how popular the Swift has been in India, Maruti Suzuki may well have a winner on their hands. It would be interesting to see the sales of this new range of Swift.
