After last week’s announcement, Toyota has introduced the facelifted Auris range at the Geneva Motor Show. There's not much to talk about in terms of the design as the revised Auris comes with minor tweaks to the front and rear fascias to create a sharper design. Noticeable changes are the adoption of LED headlights and a more prominent front bumper while the lower grille now runs the full width of the car. The back of the car hosts LED taillights and a more muscular bumper with a reflection lamp housing at the furthest edges while a low chrome bar adds a premium touch. Toyota has installed a new shark fin roof antenna, fresh 16- and 17-inch alloys and have added new body paints while on the inside comes with a few minor tweaks, including improved sound proofing. There's a new 4.2-inch TFT display hosted in a more curvaceous dashboard which makes more extensive use of soft-touch materials. More importantly, the Toyota Auris facelift has gained a newly developed four-cylinder, 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine which develops 114 bhp (85 kW) and 185 Nm (136 lb-ft) of torque channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. It enables the model to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 10.1 seconds before topping out at 104 mph (167 km/h). In this specification, the Auris will return 60.1 mpg UK (50 mpg US or 4.7 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km or 61.4 mpg UK (51.1 mpg US or 4.6 liters / 100 km) and 106 g/km when the engine is paired to the optional Multidrive S gearbox. Moreover, the 2.0-liter D-4D has been replaced with a new 1.6-liter turbodiesel rated at 110 bhp (82 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft), enough for a sprint in 10.5 seconds and a 118 mph (190 km/h) maximum speed. This diesel Auris will return 68.9 mpg UK (57.3 mpg US or 4.1 liters / 100 km) and emit 104 g/km. Toyota has also upgraded the 1.4-liter D-4D engine which now meets Euro 6 standards and comes with a new turbocharger, different piston design and a new plastic cylinder head. These modifications have reduced frictions by 20 percent and have cut NOx emissions by 55 percent while fuel consumption has been diminished by 3.4 percent. The motor develops 89 bhp (66 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) which helps the Auris hit 62 mph in 12.5 seconds and do 112 mph (180 km/h).
