Buick unveiled the refreshed 2017 Encore compact crossover on the eve of the New York auto show, updating one of it best-selling models. The Encore received restyled front and rear fascias and sheetmetal, gaining a more chiseled look after its Opel Mokka twin was similarly updated earlier in the year. The model has also gained new LED headlights which will be offered on the upper trim levels, in addition to LED taillights. "Sporting cues first shown on the award-winning Avenir and Avista concepts, the 2017 Encore embraces Buick’s modern design aesthetic," said Holt Ware, design director for Buick Exteriors. "The Encore is a crossover known for its presence – the appearance is sleek, muscular and modern." Buick has updated the interior as well, though current owners should find it familiar. Photo by Jay Ramey The automaker also made some smaller updates, adding a new 18-inch wheel design and body-color heated outside mirrors. In addition, three new colors will join the palette for 2017: Ebony Twilight Metallic, White Frost Metallic and Black Cherry Metallic. The changes are not confined to the exterior, as the 2017 Encore has received an updated instrument panel with a new gauge cluster that features a 4.2-inch color screen, as well as a redesigned center stack housing the 8-inch color touchscreen. As a representation of modern Buick styling, the Encore’s cabin is sophisticated in look and feel, and precise in its execution,” said Liz Wetzel, design director, Buick Interiors. “The instrument panel and center stack forms are artfully sculpted, while offering an effortless interface with the infotainment technologies." The turbocharged 1.4-liter four stays put for the 2017 model year; that's the only engine the Encore offers. Bose Active Noise Cancellation, standard on all models, will try to keep most of the engine noise out. When it comes to safety, the Encore will keep features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert.
