The beauty of the new Acura MDX is more than skin or, technically, sheet metal deep. Acura introduced the latest MDX during the opening press day of the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, rolling out not only a fresh design for the 2017 model year, but also a new set of high-tech safety features. With technology like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, low-speed follow and road departure mitigation, Acura, like most major brands, appears to be taking a piecemealed approach toward fully-autonomous vehicles. Other features, like forward collision warning and lane departure warnings, are designed to further combat that pesky safety threat known as human error. Dubbed AcuraWatch, the advanced safety system comes standard in the MDX and promises to not only make driving safer, but also easier by alleviating the driver's workload. This is also a sly way of Acura easing consumers into the idea of a car that drives itself.
