In around a year and a half since its launch, theHyundai Creta has been able to record sales of over 1.5 lakh units, marking a new milestone for the wildly popular SUV from the South Korean company. The Hyundai Creta was the Indian Car of the Year in 2017 becoming the third consecutive car from Hyundai to win the top honour after the Grand i10 and Elite i20. Now, its latest sales success cements the newfound popularity of the Indian SUV segment. Just a few days ago, Maruti Suzuki announced that its Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza hit the 1 lakh unit sales milestone in just a year. The Hyundai Creta recorded 9,002 units sold in February 2017, which was the highest sales volume it recorded in a month since its launch 21 months ago. On average, the SUV has sold a little over 7,000 units on a monthly basis. It recorded 1 lakh bookings within eight months of its launch in and the waiting period rose up to 10 months at one point. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza experienced the same fate in 2017 and the solution in both cases has been the same: ramping up production capacity. Hyundai recently celebrated the first anniversary of its Creta by launching a limited-edition Anniversary model and adding new variants to the line-up, including a diesel and petrol automatic.
